Sydney's Story

Hello and welcome to Baby Purity, my name is Sydney and I am the founder.
After my daughter broke out with eczema at four months of age, my discovery of the difference between conventional and alternative medicine began. I considered my family healthy and I was somewhat aware of alternative medicine, yet never too keen to try anything outside of my regular MDs recommendations. As a new mother, I was desperate to find out what was wrong with my daughter, I guess you could say my priorities changed when it came to her, I wanted the best.
After seeing our family medical doctor, my daughter was diagnosed with eczema. I then brought my daughter to a Dermatologist Pediatrician in a very well respected Children’s Hospital. The specialist informed me not to worry about her condition, it was common and that she would probably outgrow the eczema. As for any treatments, I was offered a prescription for Hydrocortisone cream, or I could also try Vaseline. Being very sceptical of putting these creams on my young baby, I started doing my own research on the Internet. After being very frightened by what I read about steroid creams I decided it was time to seek another opinion, which led me to see a Naturopath.
The Naturopathic Doctor asked great questions, uncovering other problems, which were all related to an allergy. I received answers that made sense and solutions that would heal her eczema without a “cover-up” cream. Conventional medicine has a great deal to offer us and by no means do I want to put down the tremendous job they do everyday. My concern is for the lack of accessible knowledge for parents in alternative medicine. My second concern is the tremendous pressure received by others that don’t understand alternative medicine and think conventional medicine is the only answer. Many parents that want to get to the root of their child’s ailments and seek an alternative are often ridiculed.
Through these experiences a passion grew for me to help families by educating parents on alternative choices for their children. The Internet is an often-used source of information for our family and Naturopathic information seemed hard to find. Therefore, I decided there needed to be a natural healthcare website.
As different ailments arise and pharmaceuticals advertise their ever-increasing pills, my hope is that you can be informed of alternative choices. I also hope this site is a place where you can share with other parents and feel supported. To learn of what has worked for other children and to not feel alone if you have decided on an alternative choice for your family.
I look forward to growing together and Baby Purity becoming a key source of information for your family. As we are a new site, we plan to offer more information and continually improve where we can. I welcome your comments and feedback to serve you better.
Hi Sydney, I'm so glad you
Hi Sydney,
I'm so glad you are starting this online community! The website is great.
I am pregnant with my first
I am pregnant with my first child and already beginning to feel the pressures
of making the right decisions for the health of my new babe. I would like to know
from moms out there what if anything, they would do differently if they could, for the health and
well-being of their child if they could do it over again.
I would make sure that I ate
I would make sure that I ate well... I would snack on vegetables all the time, take my prenatal vitamin EVERYDAY, acidophillus and omega 3 supplement. Then relax, knowing that your body is amazing and your baby will be beautiful and healthy!
All the best to you in your pregnancy.
I agree with Lisa, eat well
I agree with Lisa, eat well (natural foods). I'd try to do organic as much as possible. Make sure you take your Omega 3-6-9 w/ DHA (Udo's has one) and Vit D doses high enough.
I am normally quite active, but wasn't as much during pregnancy and wish I were. My muscle tone suffered for it greatly.
We did hypnobirthing and thought it was great. It was really nice to concentrate on creating/maintaining an environment of love and wellness for our baby. It also brought us closer together.
As far as things I wish I'd have done differently... researching vaccines WAY earlier and doing an infant first aid course while I was pregnant! You don't have much time to do these things after.
Number one piece of advice from me would be: do your best to make an environment of love and peacefulness for your little one while they grow within you. Connect. I really believe our baby thrived for our attention we gave. She is so alert, amazing, and happy.
Best wishes and ENJOY the moments - they are all new, sometimes challenging, but you never get them back so appreciate where you are now.
:)
