The US Food and Drug Administration has released a healthy advisory on Infant Formula. Formula coming from China has been shown to contain melamine. Chinese infants have been suffering from kidney disease which has stemmed from the melamine artificially increasing the protein profile of milk. The Chinese Government admitted that three infants have died and more then 6000 were sick. source: Ottawa Citizen.com

The FDA has contacted the following companies and they say they have not imported product or source materials from China: Abbott Nutritionals, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Nestle USA, PBM Nutritionals, and Solus Products LLC. Also, one manufacturer, SHS/Nutricia, Liverpool, England, markets an amino acid based exempt infant formula that does not contain any milk-derived ingredients.

Now how does that affect Canadians... so far reports are saying we don't have any issues with tainted formula in Canada. (source: Georgia Straightt) The only report of a possible problem is a yoghurt drink (Mengniu and Yili)from T&T Market that has been pulled from the shelves. (source CBCNews)
