Take Those Folic Acid Supplements
It is essential that women in childbearing age take their folic acid supplements. To get enough folic acid in our diet is often very difficult for most of us and the amount required is crucial for our own health (preventing cervical cancer and aiding in acne prevention) yet is also important for the health of your unborn child. "Very few women of child bearing years are taking folic acid… If a person waits until pregnant, the fetal abnormality is already established. All women of child-bearing age who might become pregnant should be taking 400 mg of folic acid," advises Dr. James Howenstine in A Physicians Guide To Natural Health Products That Work. To make matters even more difficult, women who take birth control pills are especially prone to deficiency in the B vitamin since birth control pills actually produce folic acid deficiency.
At least 400mg of folic acid a day is the recommended amount.
