CAN'T SEEM TO GET PREGNANT?
A friend and I were recently discussing how sad it is that so many people seem to be unable to get pregnant. It seems that it's the norm to find a couple that is unable to conceive then a couple that is able to get pregnant right away. This new trend seems to be one that baby boomers never dealt with.
In coming across a new article on sperm count in males (The Independent "While Levels of Sperm in Males are Failing"), it appears we are facing a critical issue. In scientific research male sperm is on the decrease and is of low quality. As much as one in five healthy males have abnormal sperm count of poor quality. The reason for this dangerous trend seems to be stemming from environmental factors. The factors largely affect boys in their development and then continues for six months after they are born. We are learning more everyday in modern healthcare that what a pregnant mother eats and does in her environment will largely affect the health of her child.
Things to watch out when pregnant:
1) too much beef, which is rich in potentially damaging chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), may cause relatively low sperm counts
2) environmental factors such as eating foods in plastics, especially heating foods in plastics - don't do it! This all effects hormones.
3) baby's toys, many of the plastic toys are constantly in baby's mouths, as we have seen with BPA it does effect hormone levels.
