Tip of The Week
Weekly insights for your children. Topics may include: Prevention of Allergies, Baby Food Guide and Signals of a Weak Immune System.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
THE ALARMING FACTS:
- From The Journal Pediatrics that 15% of American girls are expected to begin puberty by the age of 7 (with the number closer to 25% for African American girls)
- Over five million children ages four to 17 have been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the United States and close to 3 million of those children take medication for their symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
- By the mid-1970s, there were some 62,000 chemicals in use; today the number is thought to be closer to 80,000. The EPA has a full set of toxicity information for just 7 percent of these chemicals, and the U.S. chemical industry, a $637-billion-a-year business, is so woefully underregulated that 99 percent of chemicals in use today have never been tested for their effects on human health. Fewer than 3 percent of these chemicals have ever been tested for carcinogenicity. Far fewer (or none) have been assessed for their effect on things like the human endocrine system or reproductive health.
National Cancer Institute that showed a 9.4% increase in childhood cancer between 1992 and 2007
- 265% increase in children coming into hospitals with allergic reactions
- Children are full of chronic inflamation leading to disease
- 1994 GMO was put into our foods yet research was not done on the future of our foods and how it will effect food supply and our health
- GMO change proteins in foods and protein in our bodies our the main cause of allergies
- From 1973 to 1999, childhood cancers increased by 26 percent, making cancer the greatest health threat to children.
- Currently, one in a 100 8-year-old children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers, and the number might be as high as 1 in 58 for boys, according to a phone survey in the journal, Pediatrics
- 1 in 2 minority children born in the year 2000 are expected to be insulin dependent by the time they reach adulthood
We need more studies on our food, environment and preventative healthcare. We need DOCTORS that listen to their patients and prescribe prevention rather then drugs.
Further Information and Research:
INFERTILITY ON THE RISE
In coming across a new article on sperm count in males (The Independent "While Levels of Sperm in Males are Failing"), it appears we are facing a critical issue. In scientific research male sperm is on the decrease and is of low quality. As much as one in five healthy males have abnormal sperm count of poor quality. The reason for this dangerous trend seems to be stemming from environmental factors. The factors largely affect boys in their development and then continues for six months after they are born. We are learning more everyday in modern healthcare that what a pregnant mother eats and does in her environment will largely affect the health of her child.
FOOD IS OVERPROCCESSED AND CAUSING DISEASE
Large amounts of our corn and soy products are made by Monsanto which are genetically engineered seeds. Created in the 1980s the DNA is reconstructed with bacteria, virus and other genes. This seed modification quickly passed by the FDA b/c of America's excitement of becoming a world leader in biotechnology. This excitement has continued, as the Bill Gates Foundation is funding Monsanto's GMO products into the rest of the world. The cause for the Foundation is sustainability and world hunger.

Research has been done on these GMO foods and many feel they are unsafe for our bodies, some even believe they are a huge reason behind our children's growing rise in allergies, autism and disease.

70% of our packaged foods contain soy.
From 1995 to 2005 Monsanto has purchased 50 companies from wheat, cotton to tomatoes to genetically modify more foods.
Monsanto was part of creating the Bovine Hormone, (produced to create more milk in cows). This hormone is in US milk yet was banned in Canada. After some "whistle blowing" by Health Canada, scientists such as Shiv Chopra, testified of the issues with the hormone as well he spoke on the bribes from Monsanto to approve the product in Canada. He was later fired.

SUGAR and CHILDREN
"Excess sugar depresses immunity. Studies have shown that downing 75 to 100 grams of a sugar solution (about 20 teaspoons of sugar, or the amount that is contained in two average 12-ounce sodas) can suppress the body's immune responses. Simple sugars, including glucose, table sugar, fructose, and honey caused a fifty- percent drop in the ability of white blood cells to engulf bacteria. In contrast, ingesting a complex carbohydrate solution (starch) did not lower the ability of these white blood cells to engulf bacteria. The immune suppression was most noticeable two hours post-ingestion, but the effect was still evident five hours after ingestion." www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T045000.asp
If anyone is dealing with ADHD you may want to do some further reading from Dr. Keith Conners, "Feeding the Brain"as he speaks on hyperactive children often metabolizing sugar differently which results in more output of hyperactive behaviors and the cravings for more high sugar foods. Some of his research is also noted by Dr. Sears www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T045000.asp
MSG and our CHILDREN
Manufactured chemicals like aspartame and monosodium glutamate (MSG) can also be temper igniters, Lewis says. She suggests nixing foods like instant soups and sauces that contain MSG, plus foods with artificial colouring and low-cal sweeteners.
Aggressive behaviour can also be related to low blood sugar, so experts recommend eating more small meals of whole grains, protein and vegetables to keep levels in balance and avoiding refined carbohydrates such as bread, fruit juices and pastries that cause levels to yo-yo."
